Let’s Jam!
Jam Jar Music offers drum kit lessons to pupils of all ages from the purpose built “Jam Jar” in Derby. As well as one-to-one instrumental lessons there are many other things to get involved in from filming performance videos to taking part in group sessions.
The aim of Jam Jar Music is to provide pupils with real life musical skills and above all, a passion for music. The lessons are tailored to suit the needs, goals and learning styles of the individual pupils, whether that be to take graded exams, play in a band or simply to have fun.
For children, learning to play an instrument can improve confidence, creativity and interpersonal skills as well as providing potential UCAS points for those wishing to take exams. Adult learners are also welcome and it is NEVER too late to learn!
Visit the lessons pages for further details about lessons on your instrument.
Lauren Scanlon
Owner & Drum Teacher
Hi, I’m Lauren! I started drumming at the age of thirteen and haven't put the sticks down since! I completed my initial training by achieving a distinction for my grade eight drum kit exam and then went on to study Popular and World Musics at the University of Leeds followed by a Master's Degree in Music Management at the University of Sheffield. I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and have an enhanced DBS certificate and ISM Registered Private Teacher Status.
I started teaching drum lessons during my studies and have now been teaching for around 15 years. After a period of teaching from my student’s homes I was finally able to obtain my own studio in 2020 and Jam Jar Music was born! I also teach in schools and have been involved in various other music and arts education projects.
I have been playing in bands for as long as I've been playing the drums and have been lucky enough to play gigs and festivals all over the UK and beyond. I am currently drumming for a number of bands, head over to the My Music page to have a listen! I am also available as a session drummer for live and recording projects.
I specialise in all things rock and pop as that’s what I do in my day-to-day drumming work, however I enjoy and have studied a wide range of styles and am happy to teach whatever you would like to learn.
